Support Teams

Many people living with HIV/AIDS have strong support from family and friends. Even so, additional help is sometimes appreciated, both for the person who is sick and for those who are providing support. There are many other people living with AIDS who experience separation from loved ones, due to fear and/or rejection, leaving them isolated and needing support and help.

A Support Team is a group of 6-8 persons living with HIV who explore creative ways to offer practical, emotional, and spiritual support to one another, as well as to others living with the virus. Some Teams focus on supporting one another while others have an outward focus on helping others outside the Team, or helping with needs at the Clinic (like supporting New Patients, or Teams that call patients to remind them of their appointments).

As a patient, you may be interested in receiving the added emotional and spiritual support that a Support Team can offer. Please contact our Chaplain, Malcolm Marler, 975-8923 or mmarler@uab.edu if you are interested in being on a Team or have questions.
